Why is my business not showing up on Google?
You have a website, but customers cannot find you. Sound familiar? You are not alone: most small businesses are invisible on Google — usually for the same five reasons. Good news: all of them can be fixed.
1. Google does not know your site (yet)
New websites are not found automatically. Register your site with Google Search Console and submit your sitemap. Check with “site:yourdomain.com” whether your pages are indexed.
2. Your copy does not match what customers search
Customers google “hairdresser Alkmaar”, not your brand name. If your site never literally says what you do and where, Google cannot connect you to those searches.
Give every page one clear topic, with the search term in the page title, the heading and the copy. Write for people, not robots.
3. Local visibility is not set up
For local businesses a Google Business Profile matters as much as the website: it decides whether you appear in the map pack. Fill it out completely, collect reviews and keep your details consistent everywhere.
4. Your site is slow or not mobile-friendly
More than half of all searches happen on a phone, and Google judges your site by its mobile version. A slow or clumsy mobile site sinks in the results — test it with PageSpeed Insights.
5. Nothing points to your site
Links from other sites tell Google you are trustworthy. Without a single mention you stay invisible on competitive terms.
